Skoldungen Fjord is situated on Greenland’s less frequented eastern coast. It boasts captivating landscapes, characterized by snow-capped mountains, icy valley sides, and elegantly shaped icebergs in various hues of white and blue. The Thrym Glacier, which is in a state of retreat, is easily visible at the fjord's northern end. Adding to its allure, the U-shaped fjord often provides sightings of whales.

The transit through Prince Christian Sound is a highlight of this voyage. Named after Prince Christian VII, the sound connects the Labrador Sea with the Irminger Sea. It is 100 km long and at times just 500 m wide, giving it a majestic and spectacular appearance. Surrounded by snow-topped mountains, cliffs, and hills, it feels like stepping back into the Viking era. The silence and presence of icebergs create a mesmerizing atmosphere. Warm clothing is recommended to fully enjoy this spectacle. At the western end of the sound lies Aapilattoq, a small Greenlandic village with a population of 100. The village has retained its Inuit name and offers a glimpse into traditional village life. Hunting and fishing are the main occupations, and sightings of polar bear skins drying behind local dwellings are not uncommon. The village is hidden behind a prominent red rock and towering mountains, making it nearly inaccessible by land. The surrounding area is abundant in Arctic wildlife, including Arctic foxes, Arctic hares, and various marine mammals such as seals, whales, narwhals, and belugas.

The Vikings named Greenland Green and Iceland Ice to confuse attackers. Despite the name, Greenland has lots of ice. Nanortalik means "place of polar bears," but polar bears mostly live further north. Nanortalik offers beautiful nature with cliffs, sea ice, and Arctic wildlife. The city center is surrounded by Tasermiut Fjord and colorful houses. Nanortalik locals are warm and welcoming, known for Kaffe-Mik. Uunartoq Island in Greenland has hot springs and stunning scenery. Icebergs drift through fjords, mountains rise, and tundra blooms. Uunartoq hot spring offers a perfect way to enjoy the wilderness. Southern Greenland's ancient rock is two billion years old, with heated water rising on Uunartoq Island. Basic facilities and a walkway provide comfort for visitors. The island was never inhabited, except for a few summerhouses.

Qaqortoq, the largest town in southern Greenland, has a long history of human habitation. The town is situated on a steep slope overlooking the fjord system, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains, sea, lake, icebergs, and countryside. It has been inhabited since ancient times, with evidence of civilization dating back 4,300 years. Norse and Inuit settlers arrived in the 10th and 12th centuries, and the present-day town was founded in 1774. Over the years, Qaqortoq has developed into a seaport and trading center for various industries such as fish and shrimp processing, tanning, fur production, and ship maintenance. Hvalsey, located 18 kilometers northeast of Qaqortoq, is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Arctic farming complex Kujataa. It is known for its well-preserved ruins of a Norse church, which was located in a farmstead called Thjodhild's Stead. The farmstead included living quarters, a hall, livestock pens, and other buildings, some of which can still be seen today. The Norse farming in Hvalsey laid the groundwork for later Inuit farming, leading to its UNESCO World Heritage status in 2017. Historical records from the 14th century mention abundant fish, a reindeer farm on Reindeer Island, and the name "Whale Island" for Hvalsey, indicating the Norse had a reliable food supply. The church in Hvalsey was built in the 13th-century Anglo-Norwegian style and was constructed on top of an older graveyard. The farmstead is documented in the Icelandic "Book of Settlements" as property of the Kings of Norway, and the last known event involving the Norse in Greenland was a wedding held in the church in September 1408. After being abandoned for nearly 600 years, conservation work was necessary to prevent the collapse of the seaward wall.

It spans 75 kilometers and is characterized by multiple branches and glaciers coming down from the Maniitsoq Ice Cap in the north. The fjord's continuous bends create an illusion of never-ending expanse. Qingua Kujatdleq Glacier marks its southeastern end, while the northwestern end features a U-shaped valley with seven glaciers that do not reach the water. These glaciers have experienced cycles of advance and retreat since 1870. The surrounding mountains can exceed 2,000 meters in height, while the fjord itself reaches depths of up to 700 meters. Evighedsfjord's snowline sits at 1,100 meters, making it a renowned heli-skiing destination in Greenland. The Evigheds Glacier, originating from the Greenland Ice Sheet, flows westward. This slow-moving tidewater glacier winds its way through the coastal mountains and eventually breaks apart into infinite icebergs that float away down the fjord, displaying mesmerizing shades of blue and unique shapes.

Kangaamiut, also known as "the People of the Fjords," is a settlement situated along the shoreline of Greenland's Arctic Circle region, surrounded by breathtaking fjordlands. The town initially earned its name, Sukkertoppen (Sugarloaf), from the pinnacle-shaped mountains nearby. Recently, Kangaamiut celebrated its 250th anniversary. It offers an opportunity to experience authentic small-town Greenlandic culture. The town's colorful buildings are scattered across a small hill, providing a picturesque backdrop for photography. Staircases and boardwalks lead to the hill's summit, which serves as a helicopter transport area and offers awe-inspiring views of the surrounding wilderness. The locals take pride in their Inuit history and culture, and visitors are warmly welcomed by the friendly people of Kangaamiut. Depending on the day, one can witness local men selling fresh fish or reindeer meat from the fjords, women selling intricately crafted beaded necklaces and carvings, or even be invited into a local home to enjoy a cup of coffee with the hospitable residents. While the scenery is undeniably world-class, it is the warm memories of the welcoming locals that leave the most lasting impression in this Greenlandic town.

Sisimiut, also known as 'The People of the Fox Holes,' is Greenland's second city. It is the largest Arctic City in North America and acts as a hub connecting the warmer South and the frozen North of the country. The city is experiencing rapid growth and has a young and dynamic population, which includes students from all over Greenland. Sisimiut has a rich history, with over four and a half thousand years of human habitation. During the Danish Colonial Era, the city developed into a trade center, and remnants of this era can be observed at the Sisimiut Museum. The museum showcases beautifully restored buildings that display a range of artefacts, from ancient turf houses to modern Inuit art. The local artisans are highly regarded in Greenland and often sell their products directly from their communal workshop in the harbor. They engage in bartering with hunters for raw materials. Sisimiut is home to modern industries focused on seafood processing and shipping. KNI, the state-run chain of general stores that operates even in remote settlements, is based in Sisimiut. The city's iconic colorful wooden houses are still the preferred residential option for most residents. Sisimiut's vast backcountry provides excellent opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing. During the long winters, locals rely on sled dogs or snowmobiles to navigate the immense mountainous terrain. In the summer, visitors can embark on a walk to Kangerlussuaq International Airport, which also serves as a route for the challenging Polar Circle Marathon – renowned as one of the world's toughest endurance events.

After bidding farewell to the crew and fellow expeditioners, you will disembark from your cruise vessel this morning. From the port, you will then board a shared transfer to the airport.

Upon arrival in Copenhagen, you will be met by your private driver and vehicle for an airport transfer. To easily locate your driver, they will be holding a name sign at the arrival gates. Additionally, an English-speaking assistant will be available to provide further assistance during hotel check-in. They will also guide you through your welcome package documents and itinerary, and answer any questions you may have.
